New Extra Points Library Updates: DII finance data, IPEDs Benchmarking, 16,000+ documents, and more:
The best data source in college sports just got better.

Good morning and thanks for using your Library Card.
It’s Extra Points founder Matt Brown again, and I’m excited to share some of the product updates we’ve been working on behind the scenes over the last several months.
Introducing: DII financial data
One of the most commonly used features of the Extra Points Library are our charts based on the MFRS reports of D1 institutions. With just a few clicks, you can see how just about any public school’s revenues and expenses, as well as sport-specific line items, compare to their national, regional, and conference peers.
But DI schools aren’t the only institutions that file FRS reports. Historically, we’ve also tried to obtain FRS report data for DII institutions, but we haven’t built out the same reporting infrastructure for those schools. That changes today.
Now, users can go to the School Financial Rankings tab and click on Division II, to get similar revenue and expense rankings for DII schools:

We wanted to get this feature out as soon as possible, so we do not have FY24 or FY25 MFRS data yet from every DII public school. At press time, we have data on more than half of the public schools in DII, including most of the largest programs in Minnesota, Colorado, Michigan, Texas and other D-II hotbeds.
We’ve put in requests at every single institution, but if you have DII data that we’re missing, send it to us! We’re happy to trade data for it, or offer discounted (or even free) Extra Points Library access.
In the near future, we will expand the financial tables to include the same sport-specific line item rankings that we have for DI, as well as the ability to compare DII and DI data in the same charts. We’ll be building out the DII functionality on a weekly basis this fall, but early benchmarking tools are ready today.
Speaking of benchmarking,
IPEDS data can now be accessed via the Schools page
The vast majority of data in the Extra Points Library comes directly from Open Records Requests. That’s the tool we use to get coach contracts, major vendor contracts, employee salary data, MFRS financial reports, and much more.
But that isn’t the only important data source in college athletics. I know many consultants, academics, conference commissioners, and ADs also care about data from IPEDs, or the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System.
Now, if you pull up a specific school page (public or private) in DI or DII, here’s what you’ll see. Here’s a clip from Boise State’s page, for example:

Not only will you see topline data from the most recent MFRS report, but you’ll also get a snapshot of student demographic data, academic cost of attendence, 5 year enrollment trends, endowment information, and more.

We wanted to add this data to make benchmarking potential conference realignment candidates easier, and to provide a more holistic look at institutional finances, beyond what you might see from the EADA or MFRS data.
We’re willing to add even more data to those school pages, depending on what our customers are looking for…But we think it’s a significant addition already!
Finally, we’ve been hard at work adding new data. The EPL now has over 16,000 total documents
As of this morning, we’re at 16,249, specifically.
Over the last six weeks or so, some of that increase has come from our more aggressive FOIAing for DII financial documents. But we’ve also added hundreds more game contracts (across multiple sports), assistant coach contracts, GM contracts, and major vendor deals across multiple categories.
Specifically, we’ve been focusing on improving our data coverage for full-time assistant coaches in men’s and women’s basketball, out of conference game contracts across six sports (FB, MBB, WBB, WVB, BB and SB), and vendor agreements in the food/beverage/hospitality space, enterprise software, travel services and insurance providers.
We are also regularly updating our master salary lists across athletic departments for employees without contracts. That covers everything from SIDs to trainers to chefs.
I don’t think our document search will ever be truly done, but where we try to go next is informed just as much by consumer preference and need as it is our own reporting interests. We’ve filed dozens and dozens of requests on behalf of others over the last two months, and we’re happy to continue to do so for our Extra Points Library customers. If there are things you need that we don’t have, we’ll work to get them.
Some examples of new docs in the Library include, on the vendor side:

And on the AD side:

You can get access to Extra Points Library Today for just $299/mo or $2,999 a year:
You’ll get access to all 16,000+ documents, all of our financial and institutional benchmarking data, our FOIA-as-a-service offerings, and everything else that comes with EPL, for just $299/mo. We’re also happy to bundle and discount access to Extra Points Premium (the newsletter) and Extra Points Classroom (for educators and students). Act now as prices will be going up January 1st, 2027.
We’ve got a busy product update schedule this Fall, along with all the reporting and traveling I plan to do. Thanks for reading and following along with us, as we try to make Extra Points Library as valuable as possible.
